The Samuel Bowman Experiential Learning and Assessment Laboratory (ELAB) is designed to provide an immersive learning experience in a cutting-edge simulation center for clinical and healthcare practitioners and trainees in Liberia with the goal of eventually serving as a regional resource center.

Our center consists of a realistic-looking clinical sim lab, manikins, and equipment that allows learners and clinicians to practice and develop clinical expertise without any risk of patient harm.

Learners apply their theoretical knowledge during simulations and case scenarios.

These scenarios mimic lifelike clinical situations, which include environmental factors to ensure learners experience realistic and authentic situations, and are designed to help the learners develop and improve problem-solving and decision-making skills.

For enhanced learning, all learners are expected to come to the lab prepared. The faculty and ELAB staff provide learners with positive feedback and debriefing of their performance while the learners self-analyze their performance and use critical thinking during the reflection process.

The center has two high-fidelity manikins. SimMan 3G, SimBaby manikins, and other modules (Gunshot wound and amputated leg) and is also equipped with three computers and 2 TV monitors for students to view a variety of media. There are two simulation rooms, two debrief rooms, and one control /technical station. Simulation Room One is fully equipped to practice most clinical skills.

Learners are guaranteed an evidence-based simulation education to develop requisite competencies upon completion of medical training and improving patient care provided by Liberian health providers through experiential learning.
