Monrovia, Liberia – November 20, 2024: The Center for Teaching, Learning, and Innovation (CTLI), under its Health Entrepreneurship Advancement Leveraging Research (HEALR) program, has awarded $15,000 to innovative healthcare ventures during its second cohort Pitch Fest. Held on Wednesday, the event marked the culmination of a six-month mentorship and training program aimed at addressing Liberia’s healthcare challenges through entrepreneurial solutions. Six teams showcased their ventures to a panel of judges with expertise in health and business, including Stephina T. Warner, Director of UNDP UniPod; Zaza Mulbah, Senior Manager at Orange Digital Center; and Mrs. Shirley S. Fahnbulleh, Senior Coordinator for Continuing Professional Development at BRIDGE-U: Liberia. Each team had 10 minutes to present, followed by an 8-minute Q&A session with the judges.

Following two years   since the launch of the Experiential Learning Assessment Lab (ELAB) at the John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital (JFK) in Monrovia, all is set and ready to integrate it into the Residency Program at the JFK.  It can be recalled that with support by the Government of the United States of America (USA) through United States Agency for International Development (USAID) program Bringing Research to Impact for Development and Global Engagement – Utilization (BRIDGE–U Liberia) with partnership with the University of Liberia (UL) in 2022 launched the ELAB. 

Following five weeks of intensive teaching, training and different activities aimed at guiding young senior high school students to develop or grow more interest in Sciences, 73 students on Wednesday, August 28, 2024 completed the 2024 camp of Camp xSEL. Camp xSEL is an annual summer program under the USAID-funded Bringing Research to Impact for Development, Global Engagement, and Utilization: Applying Research for a Healthy Liberia (BRIDGE-U) project intended to prepare young men and women interested in health science careers — with a goal of at least 50% participation by women.

On Wednesday, August 28, 2024, seventy-three students successfully completed the Montserrado Camp 2024 Camp xSEL, a five-week intensive summer program designed to nurture high school students interested in the sciences. The camp, under the USAID-funded BRIDGE-U project (Bringing Research to Impact for Development, Global Engagement, and Utilization: Applying Research for a Healthy Liberia), aims to prepare young men and women for careers in health sciences, with a goal of at least 50% participation by women. Following nine months of intensive study, a total of 17 health workers and administrators have graduated from the first batch of the USAID funded BRIDGE-U Evidence Based Health Policy program. The program, which is being implemented by the state-run University of Liberia College of Health Sciences (ULCHS), aims to help health workers and policy makers to make decisions based on evidence and to address current health challenges and future needs. Giving the overview of the program, 

Ahead of the Camp xSEL (Excellence in Science Education for Liberia) satellite camp in Maryland County, the state-run University of Liberia College of Health Sciences (ULCHS) at the weekend held training for selected instructors of the William V.S. Tubman University in Maryland County and teachers from selected high schools in the South Eastern region of the country. During the camp, which is expected to run from July 29 to August 29, 2024, students from selected high schools will assemble in Maryland and will be taught by the instructors, who were trained and equipped with the materials to be present.

Todee District, Montserrado County Health providers in Liberia have urged to complete their Continuing Professional Development (CPD) training program which is the requirement for license renewal for all health professionals beginning 2025. The training is organized by the Liberia Medical and Dental Council, the Liberia Environmental Health Board, the Liberian Board for Nurses and Midwifery, the Liberia Pharmacy Board, the Liberia National Physician Assistant Board, and the Board of Accreditation and Licensure

In a College of Health Sciences led initiative aimed at transforming teaching practices in Liberia, faculty members from the University of Liberia College of Health Sciences (ULCHS) and other undergraduate programs at the University of Liberia recently completed an intensive Pedagogy Training Program.

​Hosted by the Center for Teaching, Learning, and Innovation (CTLI) in partnership with Vanderbilt and Yale Universities, the program spans three months from February to April 2024 and is designed to elevate teaching standards and foster innovation in education.
