Training Pipeline

The University of Liberia College of Health Sciences (ULCHS) is dedicated to developing a sustainable pipeline for cultivating skilled professionals to serve as faculty for its PhD program. Central to this initiative is the creation and maintenance of two key resources: the Timbers Resource Map and the ULCHS PhD Program Faculty Resource Map. Together, these tools track the progress and readiness of individuals who represent the future of health sciences education in Liberia.

The Timbers Resource Map is a comprehensive database that monitors Liberian students who are currently accepted to, enrolled in, or have completed graduate programs. This resource includes detailed information such as their names, affiliations, universities, funding sources, educational or training programs, training details, and contact information, including WhatsApp numbers and email addresses. Currently, the database tracks 35 students and serves as a vital tool for understanding the landscape of emerging talent. The data is securely stored in Smartsheet and can be accessed through the RETAIN Coordinating Team upon request.

Complementing this is the ULCHS PhD Program Faculty Resource Map, which focuses on individuals who have expressed interest in serving as faculty for the PhD program. This map provides an organized overview of potential faculty members, including their contact information, affiliations, profiles, curriculum vitae, letters of intent, and the courses they are interested in teaching. The database currently contains records for 141 potential faculty members and is also managed through Smartsheet, with access granted upon request to the RETAIN Coordinating Team. These two resources are integral to ULCHS’s broader faculty development strategy. By tracking students and faculty prospects through detailed data collection and ongoing updates, ULCHS ensures a clear pathway for identifying, training, and integrating highly qualified individuals into its academic ecosystem. This approach supports a structured faculty apprenticeship program, provides targeted support for graduate students to complete advanced degrees, and aligns training outcomes with the teaching and research needs of the PhD program. Together, these efforts reflect ULCHS’s commitment to building a robust, sustainable foundation for health sciences education in Liberia.
